B Team Beaches win Season Tournament Opener
|
The Florida Beaches traveled to North Carolina with
questions and headed home as tournament winners.
The team as a whole has been revamped and this
was the first time they played together in real
competition. The Beaches were able to win all four
games and only gave up one goal for the 28 they
scored. The nice thing that was seen was well
rounded scoring. Almost everyone on the team
scored, not just relying on one line to light the lamp.
The MVP of the tournament went to Isabelle Cyr who
returned to the beaches from a year long hiatus
who's unrelenting pressure both on the offensive and
defensive sides was great to see. The line of Belanger and Cyr along with Caza proved to
provide most of the offensive punch over the weekend. Tonya Sterk and Jessie Frye were solid
on defense along with newcomer Racheal McGlade who is new to ice hockey having been a
standout roller hockey player. Lori Parenty moving from the Orlando Sirens to the Beaches also
fit in nicely on the offensive side of the rink moving away from defense for the weekend. Louise
Koski went primarily untested during the weekend but came up big in the Final game of the
tournament turning away all shots she faced in earning her 3rd shutout of the tournament. The
tournament was a great learning experience and one the team will build on in the months to
come. The next tournament for the team will be in Jacksonville Florida, October 20th and 21st.
